Go ahead, rise up!

"You adulterous people don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred towards God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. ....Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Come near to God and He will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinner, and purify your hearts, you double minded. James 4:4, 7&8


This scripture got me thinking.....


What does the world I choose look like? We all have a secret world or at least we hope it is secret and hidden. Mine is food. I am not into the world of drugs, alcohol, clubs, pornography and the likes but I still have MY world. Food addiction seems to be a more acceptable world to be part of.. It really isn't though. I make the choice. The choice makes me an enemy of God. I say this because I get joy out of food. Throughout the day I think about IT more than I think about God. It is an idol. Food is my world. Seems pathetic really. I am working on this addiction. I want a heart that is submitted to God. Wholly His. I want Him "near to me". That means drawing near to Him, not my fridge. So everyday I must submit my will to His, wash my hands, purify my heart, and set aside my double - minded thoughts. It is tough but there is good news. Satan will flee when I resist in full submission to God.


What world are you choosing to live in? What addictions and idols do you have that keep you from drawing near to God?

Make the choice to live in a world submitted and close to God. James 4:10 says: "Humble yourselves before the Lord, and He will lift you up." So go ahead. Rise up with God!
